Job Summary:
The Dental Hygienist is responsible for providing professional oral care and hygiene
services to patients. This role involves performing routine cleanings, assessments, and
preventative care, as well as educating patients about oral hygiene practices and dental
health.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Perform thorough cleanings of teeth and gums, including scaling and
polishing, to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
Oral Health Assessment: Examine patients’ teeth and gums for signs of disease or
abnormalities, and record findings in patient charts.
Diagnostic Procedures: Take and develop dental X-rays to assist in diagnosis and
treatment planning.
Preventative Care: Apply fluoride treatments and sealants to protect teeth from
decay and strengthen enamel.
Patient Education: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary
habits, and preventive care strategies to improve and maintain oral health.
Administrative Duties: Schedule patient appointments, maintain accurate records,
and handle patient inquiries.
Infection Control: Follow infection control protocols and maintain a sterile work
environment to ensure patient safety.
Continuing Education: Stay current with advancements in dental hygiene practices
and continue professional development through training and certification.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Education: Degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.
Licensing: State licensure to practice as a dental hygienist, including passing
required exams.
Experience: Previous experience in a dental hygiene role may be preferred but is not
always required.
Skills:
o Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with
patients and team members.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Proficiency in using dental equipment and technology.
Certifications: CPR certification and other relevant certifications as required by
state regulations.
Working Conditions:
Environment: Typically work in a dental oice setting.
Hours: 2 day and 4 day options available. Possible oice expansion to provide 5
days / week
Physical Demands: May involve standing for extended periods, manual dexterity,
and some physical exertion during procedures.
